ARCHERY RANGE RULES & PROCEDURES
NASP RANGE WHISTLE COMMANDS
The following NASP whistle commands will be used to operate the range:
5+ whistles for an emergency
If you hear this, you must stop and "draw-down" (DO NOT continue shot), un-nock arrow and place arrow back in quiver and place bow on tow or back on rack. LISTEN for INSTRUCTIONS.
2 whistles to “get bow”
Get bow from rack, walk up to the line and get in stance with bow on toe.
1 whistle to “shoot”
This command will only be given after the 2 whistle command to get bow and everyone is on the line and ready with bow on toe. The range, behind targets and arrow curtain must be clear for this command to be given. When you are done shooting, return your bow to rack and wait behind the waiting line. DO NOT walk off the line while an archer to the left or right of you is in full draw. Wait with bow on tow until they have completed their shot to slowly step back off the line.
3 whistles to “go get arrows”
Once the end(5 arrow round) is complete the command will be given. WALK to the target, only ONE archer per target goes to target to remove and/or score arrows. The other archer sharing the same target must remain BEHIND the target line, which is safe distance to prevent getting poked with arrows as the other archer pulls arrows from target. You must remain on your feet when scoring.
- Know and obey all range whistle commands (listed below).
- Keep "bow on toe" and your arrows in your floor quiver until you are told to shoot (one whistle).
- Always keep your arrows pointed towards the target when loading and nocking bow.
- Always draw bow with arrow pointed ONLY at target
- If you drop an arrow, leave it on the ground until until end is over. Raise your hand to get a new arrow.
- Always walk in the archery range.
- Always carry arrows with two hands in a vertical position with one hand covering the tips and the other near the fletchings.
- Always be absolutely sure that the path to the target and beyond is clear before drawing bow.
- Only release bow string at full draw when there is an arrow on the string while aimed down range at target. To do otherwise is known as “Dry firing” which may cause damage to the bow.
- Secure all loose clothing, remove bracelets, necklaces, ear rings, hoodie strings, ear buds, etc, and tie hair back if needed.
- Always treat your archery equipment with respect.
- Always treat your fellow archers with respect and use proper line etiquette, making sure you are NOT in their space.
- Do not walk off the line if an archer to either side of you is in full draw. Step back back and walk off slowly to rack your bow when you can do it without disrupting archers that are still on the line. After racking bow go BEHIND the waiting line.
- Please keep talking and distractions to a minimum while archers are on line shooting.
